On August 19, 2003 with a unanimous vote, the Resident Leaders Council
formally decided to move forward in the development of a
Section 3 business that will represent all the low-income residents in
and around the Atlanta Housing Authority properties.

Additionally, the Council voted to enter into a consulting contract
with Motivation, Inc. to guide them through the business development
process. Immediately after the historic vote, a short list of
potential business partners was developed by the group to assist
them in the pursuit of turnkey, landscaping and temporary staff placement
services.
In keeping with the Council’s mission, “To Act in the enlightened
self-interest of the residents as a body”, the leaders have reinvested
themselves in the needs of their communities and agreed to work in a traditional
corporate structure to streamline decision making and increase productivity.
After making some simple amendments to their existing Articles of Incorporation,
the Council will be prepared to do business as a business, not
simply a conduit of information.
The next step in the process will be to establish specific committees
and introduce the business to the local housing authorities,
their private management companies and the City of Atlanta. As one of the
leaders stated at the conclusion of the three-hour meeting, and with a large
and infectious smile on her face, “We’re in business now”! |
